Global/Transnational Sociology , Gender and Sexuality , Labor , Immigration
My areas of interest are gender, intersectionality, global/transnational sociology, immigration, and citizenship. I am pursuing a Ph.D. in Sociology. Originally from Japan, I earned a BA in Sociology from the University of Maine in 2005 and an MA in Sociology from California State University Fullerton in 2009. As an MA student, I worked with the Orange County Human Trafficking Task Force. I also served as a victim advocate for victims of human trafficking for over four years. My direct contact with government officials and clients has shaped the direction of my research. Currently, I am working on a paper that investigates how actions of nation-states impact migrant women’s agency under the influence of patriarchy and the global market.
