Publications  

Maricarmen Hernandez published an article in Spanish in a journal similar to Contexts, published out of the Instituto Colombiano de Estudios Superiores, in Cali, Colombia. It is entitled:  “Memoria Colectiva y el Derecho a la Tierra (Tóxica).”  Read here.

The book On Revolutions: Unruly Politics in the Contemporary World by Beck, Colin J., Mlada Bukovansky, Erica Chenoweth, George Lawson, Sharon Erickson Nepstad, Daniel P. Ritter (equal co-authors) is now in print and available through Oxford University Press. Find here.

Graduate student, Korey Tillman’s sociological fiction piece, "Masks" has just been published with the The Sociological Review. Read here.

Grants, Fellowships, and other Supports 

Graduate student Emily Castillo has been awarded the SWS (in collaboration with ASA and SSSP) Beth B. Hess Memorial Dissertation Scholarship for the 2022-2023. 

Awards 

 Graduate student Korey Tillman’s Social Problems article “Carceral Liberalism: The Coloniality and Antiblackness of Coercive Benevolence.” (Read here.)  received honorable mention for the SSSP Poverty, Class, and Inequality Division's Michael Harrington Award. 

Presentations and Workshops, Public Engagement, Public-facing Scholarship, and News Coverage  

Nancy López was quoted (5/13/22) in the Pew Charitable Trusts Stateline article on the importance of multiple measures of race, including street race for advancing equity: “Asking simply how people identify is not enough,” López said. “We need to measure how others see you, or we miss an opportunity to make inequity visible and rectify that inequity.” Read more here.

 Chalane Lechuga (UNM PhD Sociology 2010) was promoted to full professor at Metropolitan State University. 

 Jeff Nowacki (UNM PhD Sociology 2014) was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure at Colorado State University.
